Abacus

You are my beloved

Counting fingers sliding
beads up and down the frame
some underhand and hiding
each bead looks just the same.

I’m counting on your backbone
vertebrae one at a time
then move into your neck zone
my fingers slowly climb.

You shudder sigh and shiver
and arch your back again
pebbles moving in the river
the sigh a sweet refrain.

I change to softly stroking
each side of your sleek back
a movement that’s evoking
an abacus counting rack.

You’re mine and curl up with me
the one that I adore
united we will be
our love free to implore.

You cuddle up in ecstasy
we feel complete like that
and wing away in fantasy
you are my beloved cat.
