Beneath the Bougainvillea
A million miles away
Beneath the bougainvillea,
A million miles away,
The sweet soft smell of summer,
On a Greek Island day.
I let my senses simmer,
Living in the now,
Moments melting in my mouth,
As much as I allow.
Voula is much cooler,
Then the heat on the highway,
Walks in plumes and exhaust fumes,
The cool water makes my day.
There’s a sense of sentience,
The sun, the sea, and the sky,
History and mystery,
In the winds reply.
There are magic moments,
The food and family,
And in Greece, my new niece,
And sounds of cadency.
The rhyme rhythm and rhapsody,
Blue lightening in the air,
The flowers and the power,
A life lived without a care.
Diving deep into the sea,
The sizzling summer heat,
And so free I can see,
My pulse and free heartbeat.
In the leafy garden,
Shielded from the sun,
Cool, calm, and complete,
When the day is done.
