Books gathering dust

The wisdom of great authors
their books gathering dust
up upon the bookshelves
the story slowly rusts.

Graded by their heights
subjects and authors too
a testimony to knowledge
the reader never knew.

Some unwanted presents
adorn the literary line
filling empty spaces
those rigid in the spine.

A repository of literature
a resting place for novels
bookshelves never touched
storage for old fossils.

Demonstrating intelligence
bookshelves of the brow
where sleepily resides
the memory and knowhow.

The bookshelves of the library
my favourite place to browse
and select a special author
to read when time allows.

Without them and their missives
the prose and odes as well
that hide within their covers
I could never retell.

The magic and the mysteries
the fiction facts and fun
a read that is the seed of life
a book grabbed on the run.

Bookshelves hold memories
now frozen in time
some books I have created
told in rhythm and in rhyme.
