Chicanery
Where the world is leaning
Walking down the avenues
of tricks and double meaning
seems to be the state of affairs
where the world is leaning.
The smooth and silver tongues
of diplomacy and discretion
only tell half-truths
under croaking cloaks of deception.
The less words said in defence
are fewer words to remember
when using underhandedness
the truth becomes a dying ember.
Orations on the public stands
seemingly with the best intentions
can be thin on facts
notable for the abstentions.
The shards of broken promises
of beliefs ethics and morals
seen in a different light
ignition for more quarrels.
Carelessness and trickery
shenanigans and skullduggery
ways of sliding through
the guise of bland chicanery.
Dodging the darts of malice
the deviousness and deceit
rising above the mire
laid before our feet.
Now you see it
then it’s gone
far faster than a card sharp
into the great beyond.
Aptitude and attitude
that puts us to the test
discarding the chicanery
lies we all detest.
