Dark Night

A night sky full of diamonds

Nestled in the ocean
far from city lights
a jewel set in the Channel
on the darkest of all nights.

Stars that shine like diamonds
in the ebon sky
drip down onto the earth
tears from heaven sigh.

Above the Abercrombie
in the wild Tablelands
far from dense habitation
and the ocean sands.

The dark night descends
astral lights pure and bright
stretch and filter through the trees
and spread their pale light.

The silence of the dark night
impenetrable to sound
opening up the heavens
down here on solid ground.

In the upper atmosphere
beyond the dark blue yonder
galaxies never seen
are born then grow and wander.

The wonders of black welkin
with necklaces of silver
sparkling through the night
reflect in nature’s mirror.

Above the Milky Way
with zest shining Celeste’s
amass and move in mystic clouds
waiting to be blessed.

From the hills of Jerrong
to the Channel Islands
dark nights open the skies
to a night sky full of diamonds.

Standing here in silhouette
merging with the mist
here beside the dark night
I drink the scene in bliss.
