Each Step
Or stroke of the way
I read about the Rhumba.
And the deals of the dance.
Some, like the Zumba
They put me in a trance.
I used to do the Boogaloo.
And dance until dawn.
Now, those joints are frozen.
Yet I’ve moved since I was born.
Yesterday the tide was right.
The water was like a fitted sheet.
Time to take my New Year’s swim
I didn’t miss a beat
I waddled to the water.
And slipped in like a whale.
Then did my trusty breaststroke.
And knew I wouldn’t fail.
I used to be a lifesaver.
Though that was long ago
And now I swim so slowly.
I was floating with the flow.
It’s summer in Australia.
The time for fun and sport
Or wearing a new costume
A present someone bought.
My life’s never been better.
When I act on a slim whim
And walk into the water
And take my morning swim
I have no regrets
The best is yet to come.
As I sign these words in rhyme
Sitting on my bum!
