Eccentric

Oddball

On the train, it’s so mundane.
Boredom is written on the faces.
Wearing masks, my mind asks.
Are they off to the races?

Not circular in orbit
Nor centred in a circle
Peculiar and offbeat
They line up at the local.

Misfits with no agenda
Head cases on the fringe
On a quirky bender
Or wacky way-out binge.

Free spirits out of kilter
With the straight and narrow
An idiosyncratic filter
Bend the straightest arrow.

Non-aligned with the conventional
Individuals with character
Minds multi-dimensional
An uncommon sort of actor.

Without eccentric behaviour
Days would be dull as dishwater.
Adopt a misfit saviour.
If you don’t, you ought to.

Oddballs are the answer.
If life becomes too quiet
Or hire an exotic dancer
Something to keep it light.

A colourful reputation
Enjoy an engaging eccentric
Always beats stagnation
Give normalcy to the flick.

So, if you meet an oddball
However mild or meek
Just give me a call
They’re the oddities I seek.

I’ll put them on the next train.
Leaving for the coast
Then serve them up for breakfast.
Like marmalade on toast.
