Evening Rain
Sings her sweet refrain
Sunbeams dancing
horses prancing
a mirage on the melting road,
nature’s gasping
begging and asking
for rain to fill our empty stream.
Rolling clouds
between the shrouds
the hot wind, moaning and whining
pray for relief
pilfered by a thief
the clouds roll on past the horizon.
Evening descends
the air moans and rends
then lightening lights up the sky,
thunder moans
dogs cower with bones
then a splash hits the ground.
Torrent’s falling
heaven’s calling
the earth is satisfied,
soothing and surfeit
on natures feet
quenching evening rain.
I rise and rush
then hear the hush
droplets soft as silk,
and then the sigh
that ends the dry
sings her sweet refrain.
