Expression

Or impression

Is it a smile I see in your eyes
Have I misinterpreted your expression
It’s hard to interpret enigmas
And to sort out facts from the impression

In the long hallways of mysteries
That wind-round nuance at night
Are the shade and shadow covering up
Clear elucidation apparent in light

I don’t know the answers to questions
Formed around the hidden emotions
Nor know if there’s a panacea
Or a bottle of magical potions

Expressions painted on lips
False smile or sign of good humour
Is it a message hidden by a veil
Or misinterpretation and a rumour

Masks, wigs, make-up, and facades
Can hide the unseen intentions
Concealed in a river of mysteries
Embroiled in a sea of tensions

The packaging outside looks perfect
Tied up in red ribbons and bows
Does it conceal Pandora’s box
And inside, nobody knows

Expressions change like white lightning
A flash of recognition soon disappears
Can you discard the masks you wear
And wait till you reappear
