Heart Wide Open

Eyes wide shut

I knew we’d find a cure
A recipe for love
And like the wind, we’d rescind
Then fly free like a dove.

Heart wide open, eyes wide shut
We moved through miles each day.
I could swim on a whim.
Whilst you slept the day away.

Waves of expectations
Castles in the sky
Then to win with a grin.
You never were too shy.

Walking into wanderlust
And then it’s time to leave.
The recipe for departure
Too often seen to grieve.

To every moment
Like most, they disappear.
Into new destinations
Robust and without fear.

Nothing lasts forever
We’re born. We live and die.
And taste the different recipes.
And mop the tears we cry.

Though you’re not near, it is clear.
The years have salved the hurt.
I put my fingers in the fire.
I knew that I’d get burned.

Circumstance does her dance.
Eyes closed, shut you down
and left you in the blue
in your satin gown
