I Accept
My fate
I wound it up and set the time,
Tick tock tick tock tick tock,
It seems it has metabolised,
When will it ever stop?
Times of crimes and lines and lines,
Of soldiers sent to die,
Uncertain situations,
The mothers left to cry.
That was back a long, long time.
Many years ago,
Now the clock is winding down,
When it stops, I’ll never know.
I accept my fate; it’s not too late,
My thoughts are like a bird,
Flying free remembering,
Most things I’ve ever heard.
Wind me up, don’t interrupt,
The slow and sure momentum,
Count me in degrees of time,
Perpetual per centum.
The mystery of history,
Facts turn into fiction,
I never doubt a blow or clout,
Or itches from the friction.
Winding down the avenue,
Change is in the air,
close to most of the family,
Life’s a double dare.
So here I am, wham, bang, bang,
trying subtle in my stride,
Growing old, I’ve been told,
With signs, I cannot hide.
