I Saw You
In a photograph.
As I flicked through my photos
I saw your face
And you resurfaced from the sea.
And another place
I saw you in a photograph.
It seemed out of the blue.
Your style is eclipsed in sepia.
The features that I knew.
It evoked in me a feeling.
A peeling back of layers
Showing who you were
And not one of the players.
I searched for a sign to define
The background drops, and the day
You stood captured in monochrome.
And held me in your sway.
Now that you’re gone, the memory lasts.
I scan the memories
And see your wind-blown moment.
It was flowing through the trees.
Then like a bird, you fly again.
Into my consciousness
Your golden hair, deep blue eyes
And the flowing golden dress.
All muted in sepia
Pieces are frozen in the past.
Etched deep in my memory
Your photograph will last.
I saw you in a photograph.
And then you turned away.
Your silhouette is set in sepia.
On another time and day
