In Between the Lines
Can you read the signs
The words spell out my message
then in between the lines
lie the hidden meanings
can you read the signs?
Metaphors open doors
and take the place of words
then flee into the ether
like a flight of birds.
Can you read the words I’ve written
in between the lines
and lift the veil that hides my soul
between nuances and signs.
No one knows the hat and clothes
that covers how I feel
or the nectar that lies down below
hidden by the peel.
My words drift by like wisps of smoke
and sail past my senses
not captured but escaping
when I let down my defences.
When I dream I see the cream
rise to my surprise
and like a wraith within my soul
stand there before my eyes.
If you see a glimpse of me
in between the lines
penned in ink you’re apt to think
my truths are told in signs.
Sometimes at night and despite
dreams that don’t make sense
answers without questions
often jump the fence.
The fiction and the diction
dissolve and turn to fact
in between the lines some signs
are real and not abstract.
