Like Candles

In the wind.

Thoughts of bygone days
Drift by in whorls of mist
Igniting latent memories
Of feelings often missed.

Like candles in the wind
Snuffed out and never lost
Counting the dying embers
Regardless of the cost.

Some are full of elation,
Others are too hot to hold
Smoke of remembrance
Others have turned cold.

A song from yesteryear
Left playing in the mind
The stirring in the loins
Often too hard to find.

Evolutionary evocations
The feelings of a child
Unknown nervous instincts
While wandering in the wild.

Nostalgia still surrounds
The air I breathe today
From a bygone time
Too hard to know or say.

In vistas o’er horizons
Across the seven seas
Some are too hard to look at
Others of love that please.

In the early morning mist
A trail of gone tomorrow
Reflect for evermore
The happiness and sorrow.
