To be alive.

Lucky to be alive I’ve taken a dive
and am buried deep down in the water
I can’t catch my breath it could cause my death
Breathing underwater is a fatal disorder.

I went out for a swim just on a whim
at a beach sun-drenched and deserted
and ducked under a wave in the summery haze
And with death and drowning I flirted.

I sank into the flow of a swift undertow
and was spirited out to the deep blue sea
As I sank, I feared I could drown
And expected likely I would soon cease to be.

I gathered my thoughts of all types and sorts
then tried to propel myself up to the surface
I exhaled some bubbles and then for my troubles
Shot to the top accidentally on purpose.

Now at the top, I took deep breaths to stop
my oxygen-deprived lungs from bursting
I took a look around and then heard the sound
Of a high-powered boat rapidly approaching.
