Moonlight

Nocturne.

In the cool mist of the evening
the white magnolia spreads her petals
a flower lit up by pale moonlight
as the orchestra readies and then settles.

The beautiful sound of night calls
a nocturne without instrumentation
the crickets rub their legs together
then frogs croak to gain attraction.

The night is now alive
with a magic musical sound
echoing in the treetops
and drumming throughout the ground.

The chorus is the birdsong
from the gentle coo of a dove
to the hoots of owls and warbling
in the branches of forests above.

In the secret garden scene
the dulcet tones of the night
the rustle of the lilting leaves
trills call of sheer delight.

I’m transported to another place
by the sacred hymns of nature
a song is sung by the birds and bees
a rhapsody of pure rapture.

As night drops, her inky veil
the suspense and anticipation
of nature’s only band
strums up a new ovation.

The music of the heart and soul
soothes and salves my senses
a pure unadulterated sound
of the orchestra of no pretences.
