My State of Mind

Recalls.

Is it time for reminiscing?
A look back to the past
Memories that surface
Into my mind and last.

Is it time to draw the curtains?
And shut out the here and now
And recollect what’s left behind
In depths beneath the lough.

Down deep below the surface
Where thoughts swim transparently
In deep currents, seldom seen
I hold close inherently.

Thoughts conjured up and tossed
Like balls thrown in the air
Some are memories called to mind
Others labelled do you dare.

Thrown tumbled eating sand
Swimming upwards then deluged
By yet another dumping wave
Until I’ve reemerged.

Abstract as a slice of bread
Or a wrapper on the footpath
A mist inside the bathroom
As I step into the bath.

Memories like drops of rain
Fall and settle in my mind
Some prompt total recall
Others are left behind.

I conjure up recollections
And heed far-distant calls
Reminding me of another day
My state of mind recalls.
