Observing

And not participating.

Staying at arm’s length and observing all the action
Being played out in the middle of another worlds domain
Watching and listening though not participating
Feigning knowledge, though, can never be the same.

As being out there in the middle and taking on all comers
Win or lose in a game of ability, skill, and action.
Out there, standing toe to toe in the middle of the arena.
The gladiators of life, the men and women in the news.

Standing on the sideline clear of direct involvement
The very safest way to play the game of life
By standing clear and sitting safely in the grandstand
Free of hurt and pain and avoiding any strife.

Some play the game of life from a safe position.
And become expert judges of how others perform.
Is the judgment that’s made out on the sidelines
It was made by fair-weather sailors far from the threatening storm.

The answer to these questions and many others
It is dependent upon the perception of the players.
Some like the thrill of the chase and the action
And others make predictions of soothsayers.

On the hill above the world, the wise are watching.
And I was observing what each new day and sunrise brings.
Standing on the sidelines and predicting what will come
Whilst nature yawns and the morning chorus sings.
