Outside

The elements are playing.

Photograph thanks to Marianne.

Outside, the elements are playing
Winter and her winds are on parade
The cool is keen cold and icy
Days disappear in an early fade

Like the seasons, I am constantly changing
Here one day the next I may be gone
I watch the wind roaring through the treetops
Like the wind, I move and travel on

Inside my heart, a pulse is beating
Some beats are mine others, are man-made
I’m flesh and bone and partly synthetic
Some are in the sun the rest are in the shade

I embrace what I find about me
Outside of the elements I belong
In touch with the feeling of the seasons
The garden and trill of the birdsong

It keeps me alive and connected
Plugged in and engaged every day
If I miss a stroll or smell of the seaside
The elements that hold me in their sway

I rock slowly and bend at the moment
The vistas fill my heart with happiness and joy
It takes me back to my beginning
When I was just a little boy

Elements lead to love and satisfaction
A moment eclipsed by a rainbow
A time that stays with me forever
A feeling that only I can know

Wrapped up in redemption
From the winter cold
Snug as a bug in a rug
I move into the mould.
