Shades
Of love
Love is handed out so loosely.
Is there true meaning anymore
And if I say I love this or that
Does it add up to a score?
One more move of love talk
Progressing far beyond our depth
Is when I say I love you
Does it mean love until death?
Bantering different words
For maximum impression
Designed so carefully
For a harmonic progression.
Love lust and sexual attraction
They are like flames and never last.
But it may well be the precursor.
To love when lust has passed?
Friendship is much more solid.
An affinity right to the end
The sort of love that’s tangible
And the easiest to send.
Narcissism is a schism
And withers with the breeze
And can be self-destructive.
And a disparate disease.
Acceptance and respect
Support and caring for another
The same love that’s always been
Between a baby and its mother.
So, if I say I love you
I love you from the heart.
It will bind our souls together.
And give breath to a new start.
