Sheathes of Green and Gold

A treasure in a fold

Curling and encasing,
A treasure in a fold,
The symbiosis is amazing,
In sheathes of green and gold.

I feel the fascination,
A touch that satisfies,
The wonders of creation,
And the endless skies.

I long to peel and reveal,
The sweetness hid within,
And to feel the golden meal,
And nectar on my chin.

I walk into another place,
My eyes perceive the mist,
And the folds that interlace,
Places dewdrops kissed.

Some things stay forever,
The rows of golden corn,
Some things I know that never,
Change since I was born.

That feeling of freedom,
In the great outdoors,
The subtle change of season,
These are mine and yours.

Stars that shine in the night,
And hover till the dawn,
And the sense of pure delight,
As I stretch and yawn.

And that subtle feeling,
Sheathes of green and gold,
And the gentle peeling,
Of leaves that they enfold.
