Silence
And simplicity
Forget the gifts meant to lift,
The spirits for a while,
Good health, love, and friendship,
They are far more worthwhile.
Swimming in the ocean,
Walking by the sea,
Time spent in the country,
It is great, I will agree.
And then other great gifts,
Our happiness and health,
And the quality of life,
It is imminent wealth.
Then some time to read and rhyme,
Rest and recuperate,
To do what I want to,
It takes a lot of work to overrate.
Times spent in conversation,
Good humour and a laugh,
And to gaze upon the treetops,
Just like a giraffe.
To be immersed in empathy,
To shed a tear or two,
To enjoy a thunderstorm,
That comes out of the blue.
Silence and simplicity,
Gifts are unsurpassed,
And the love of somebody,
A love that’s meant to last.
A time to tend the garden
The blush of the summer sun
The flowers and their powers
Of knowing we are one.
But the greatest gift of all,
Resides here in my heart,
The ability to love me,
A gift right off the chart.
