Soaking Wet

The weather’s set.

There’s a shower every hour.
Then there’s heavy rain
Going down the gurgler
Going down the drain.

Wet and yet it’s sticky.
In a monsoonal trough
On the road to nowhere
Please, can we get off?

Pitter-patter, does it matter?
Sleeping in till eight
Staying up till midnight
Getting to bed late.

Reach for the umbrella.
Tiptoe past the puddles
Pace the floor and find more
Ways to ease the troubles.

Search for liquid sunshine.
Snooze and read a book
Engage in conversation
Try not to get crook.

Some say if you pray for rain
That’s what you’ll get
An answer to your prayers
And then the big wet.

Wet, wet, soaking the weather’s set
To go from bad to worse
Sit at home and try not to moan
And write a little verse.
