Stripes of Sunshine

Stretched between a stand of trees

Often found on the ground,
Filaments of light,
Stretched between a stand of trees,
Much to my delight.

It lifts the scent of the earth,
Washed by the morning mist,
And lies upon the leaves in lines,
The morning sun has kissed.

The crunch beneath my footsteps,
New views seen everywhere,
I stop and stare walk from my lair,
And breathe the mountain air.

The birds I’ve heard now whisper,
Then flap and soar in flight,
Heralding a brand-new day,
Removed from the night.

It’s hard to miss the first eclipse,
A kaleidoscope of fire,
An explosion of colour,
Then rising like a spire.

Far above the treetops,
Lines of luminescence,
Caressed by the morning breeze,
Nature at her very essence.

Then there are reflections,
From the mirror on a pool,
Each colour of the rainbow,
Sparkle like a jewel.

Thoughts they taught soon vanish,
The magnet of the mood,
Striated stripes of sunlight,
My mind has accrued.
