The Index in the Book of Life
Conception gains a mention.
I’m looking for a sign
To show me which direction
There’s no list that I can find
That allows for a correction.
A correction to the list
That indicates the start
To go about the mending
Of meanderings of my heart.
The index in the Book of Life
Lists conception as the first
In a long line of experiences
And ways to slake one’s thirst.
But there’s no chapter on the heart
And what to do when lost
Or indices to count the hurt
Or ways to count the cost.
So here I am hurting
I have no reference or solution
To whether I’ll get better
And what is the absolution.
In the darkness of the night
Before the morning dawns
My fears manifest in nightmares
Ere the mist dampens the lawns.
