The Secrets

Of the night

I appreciate the good information.
In a clear, concise, considered form
But with a glut of paraphernalia.
Details can cause a data storm.

There can be players of lowdown.
Too many for me to articulate
That cover-up is the nitty-gritty.
More work to calculate.

When layers are peeled off the parcel
The contents are there for all to see
The suspense of unwrapping a present
A surprise always satisfies me.

When morning sheds layers of darkness
And unfurls the secrets of the night.
What was hidden becomes apparent.
The sun embellishes the world with new light.

My life from a long-ago inception
It is layered with facts, figures, and advice.
Some layers sit like sheet metal.
An impervious locked-in device.

Each day is like an apple.
I peel the layers back to the core.
And savour each bite of a new day.
Each layer opens another door.

It’s lovely to remove the layers.
And experience freedom from the weight.
From the blankets covering me at nighttime
To the new day afore it is too late.
