The Zenith

What man has done.

Can it be undone What man has done
To ruin the place
For the human race.

The crown has slipped and fallen
and no longer reigns aloft
The sun hangs in the heavens.
‘tween the zenith and the croft.

All birdsong has melted.
Zephyrs have lost their drift.
Eagles hover suspended
‘tween the zenith and the rift.

The mouth gapes open limply.
Gasps have up and left.
the volcano in extinction
‘tween the zenith and the cleft

The celestial sphere is dripping
swinging on the raft
lost out in the ocean
‘tween the zenith and the craft.

Above up in the heavens
A million dreams are lost.
burnt by silver sunbeams
‘tween the zenith now embossed.

With memories lost forever
Tomorrow went too fast.
the convoluted notions
‘tween the zenith never last.
