Watching Clouds

As they float on by

I never really stopped to look.
They almost reached the sky.
Tall calls I’d put on myself.
And the great will to try.

To succeed in the high standards.
I’d put upon achievement.
Of unrealistic goals, I’d set
That led to disillusionment.

I never stopped to evaluate
Whether I achieved satisfaction
Or was it to please somebody else
And that I was a man of action.

Out to fix others’ problems.
And not consider consequences.
Of attitudes and dependencies
And the effects upon my senses.

Sorting out the platitudes
Dispensing with inequalities
And identifying what’s for the best
Well, within my abilities.

The proof’s then in the pudding.
Tall calls whittled down.
To create harmony and balance.
And wipe away my frown.

With shortened expectations
I can now look into the sky.
And instead of the tall calls.
Watching clouds as they float by.
