What is Ordinary

Is there a barometer?

Is routine called normal
Until something extra happens
And is that less than ecstasy
When mixed with latent passions.

If there were a barometer
To measure every mood
What is more than ordinary
I’m trying to conclude.

Moved by mixed emotions
Depending on the feeling
Some leave me stultified
Others have me reeling.

I’m looking for a balance
It seems such a long queue
And when I reached the checkout
There was only me and you.

I thought that was extraordinary
Where had the others gone
Had they all left the balanced line
Or were they added on?

To the list of those past us
Like ships in the night
And left us on this island
As they drifted out of sight.

There’s always more than ordinary
New mountains to ascend
Aspirations and endeavour
And moments, left to bend.
