You Left me with your Song
A lilting lyric to a long-gone friend
I saw your song behind a cloud
so near yet far away
then in amongst the bracken
on the shores down by the bay.
The music echoed in my mind
and took me to the places
where all is peaceful and serene
I found you in the traces.
Of grains of sand and driftwood
carried by the oceans
songs of the seven seas
a tapestry of melodic notions.
The sound of your warbling guitar
your anthems on the strings
and then your hymn from heaven
brought to me on angel’s wings.
You left your music with me
one moment here then you were gone
the rhapsody radiated in ripples
spread by a swimming swan.
When ere I think about you
your music’s in the breeze
the air and strains familiar
wafting o’er the lochs and seas.
I know that you were blessed
and that only the good die young
and you sing to me in the nighttime
in a lilting and exotic tongue.
Your song stays in my senses
the melody it lasts so long
I turn the page and you are there
you left me with your song.
